Track System Boarding at Roaming Rosewood Ranch

We keep our horses on approximately 3.5 acres with unlimited access to hay and fresh water. In our pasture we have installed a track system designed to keep the horses moving from resource to resource. The horses do the work themselves, constantly pushing each other from one station to the next, walking miles every day! This promotes excellent hooves, as they are walking on different surfaces, stepping over logs and rocks, and really enhancing the proprioception in the hoof. Toplines improve, behavior improves, and the overall health of the horse improves exponentially. Track systems work for everyone, and are excellent rehabilitation opportunities for horses with metabolic and weight issues, hoof pathology like Laminitis/Founder, Navicular syndrome, Long toe-low heel, hoof bruising, and hoof imbalance. The track system will wear down the hooves as wild horses wear theirs down from daily travel, creating a robust, healthy, balanced hoof.

Our Fencing: The perimeter fence is 4' tall livestock fencing with a line of hot rope on the top to keep the horses from pushing and leaning on the fence. The interior track fencing is composed of step in posts with three lines of hot rope. The reason for step in posts is to be able to move the track as needed, widen or narrow it for the amount of horses currently boarded, and to rotationally graze the areas in the middle of the track. We raise sheep, and chickens in the center of the pasture, and they all play their part in weed/pest control while utilizing every inch of our property. The sheep eat the grass and weeds while fertilizing the soil, and the chickens eat the insects in the soil and manure, which keeps our pastures growing a ton of food and the animals pest free!

At the front of the property is our large three sided shelter that everyone can stand in comfortably. In the summer we install fans to keep the horses cool on hot days. There is an auto waterer and a large water trough for those horses who don't prefer the smaller dish. We currently feed coastal round bales in a slow feed net. The bales are moved to a new location each time we replace them and are on the opposite end of the track from water, so horses must take a lap up to the front when they get thirsty. 2/3 of the track is in the trees and very shady in the summer for everyone to stay cool. We blanket in winter at owners request and feed grain/supplements 1-2 times per day as needed. Farrier lives on site!
